T Dubois, How to keep sustainable aviation fuel sustainable?, Aviation Week & Space Technology, 15-28 June 2020, p 55

In the aviation world, sustainable fuels are seen as a most promising development, and the November 2018 report of the Energy Transmission Commission suggests that the aviation demand of about 600 mn tonnes of jet fuel could be met in this way. Because of its unique requirements, aviation should take priority over other sectors. These fuels include biofuels and Power-to-Liquid (PtL) derived from atmospheric CO2 and hydrogen released from water by solar energy.
