Petroleum Review June 2020
This month’s issue of Petroleum Review begins with a look at why the world should pay attention to climate change and the broader sustainability agenda despite the scope and magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also highlights what leading authorities anticipate will be the post pandemic picture for the energy transition going forwards.
From a climate and emissions perspective, the most important aspect of the energy transition is the electrification of energy consumption and decarbonising electricity generation by increasingly using distributed energy systems. We take a look at some of the key trends and developments driving this sector.
We also assess the potential of power-to-chemicals and how it might change the status quo in the energy transition in the future. In addition, we look at how the petrochemicals sector has stepped up to the challenges of COVID-19 in recent months.
Our regional focus places the spotlight on the changing energy landscape of Russia and its neighbouring states, and examines how US sanctions have helped stimulate innovation in Russia’s oil and gas sector.
Also head to the EI website to access our digital feature, where you can read about the significant progress made in moving global rail networks away from diesel power, a trend that must not be jeopardised by today’s worsening economic instability.
