500th ship arrives at Isle of Grain LNG terminal

National Grid welcomed the 500th ship to arrive at its liquefied natural gas (LNG) importation terminal on the Isle of Grain, Kent, in March. The LNG Merak was the 22nd ship to arrive at Grain this year, delivering cargo from Zeebrugge.

Since commissioning the terminal in 2005, National Grid has taken delivery of LNG from 13 countries, strengthening the diversity and security of UK gas supplies. Grain is the largest LNG importation terminal in Europe, with one million m3 of storage and the capacity to process around 15mn tonnes of LNG annually, says National Grid. The terminal has the capacity to deliver a quarter of UK gas demand.
