Total to build battery storage in France
Total has announced the construction of what will be the largest battery storage project in France.
The €15mn project, which will be built in at the Flandres Center in Mardyck, a suburb of Dunkirk, will use lithium-ion batteries with a combined storage capacity of 25 MWh and an output of 25 MW.
Scheduled for commissioning in late 2020, it will be used to provide fast reserve services to support the stability of the French power grid. It will be based on French battery manufacturer Saft’s Intensium Max 20 High Energy solution and will comprise 11 integrated 2.3 MWh containers, designed and manufactured at Saft’s production site in Bordeaux.
The project is part of the French government’s policy to support the development of electrical capacity through capacity mechanisms.
