In US, Skydweller Aero has acquired the global-travelling Solar Impulse, and is modifying it for the role of a high altitude pseudo satellite (HAPS) for communications and surveillance, staying aloft for 90 days above winds and weather. A payload of 300-800 lb is expected, with altitude sustained at 15 000 to 45 000 ft. There is provision for installation of a fuel cell.
