G Warwick & G Norris, The power of hybrid, Aviation Week & Space Technology, 13-26 January 2020, p 42

Whereas 2-4 seating electric aircraft are approaching certification , and 19-seat short range regional aircraft are under design, aircraft of 6-9 passengers with hybrid -electric propulsion are under test, and by 2030, hybridization is expected to benefit propulsion.
The following definitions apply:
  • Parallel hybridization - thermal engine and electric motor drive the same shaft.
  • Serial hybridization - only the electric motor drives the shaft, powered by thermal-driven generator and batteries
Two current projects are the series Airbus E-Fan X, and the United Technologies Corporation parallel Project 804, involving a modified 89 passenger de Havilland Canada Dash 800. Airbus are working with Rolls-Royce, UTC, Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney Canada.
