Introduction of green number plates for ultra low emission vehicles: consultation
"Consultation setting outinitial views and inviting comments on a range of aspects regarding the introduction of green number plates, including:
- eligibility
- design
- rollout
- enforcement
The purpose of introducing green number plate is to:
- provide a UK-wide mechanism enabling people to spot and differentiate vehicles based on their environmental impact
- help inform road-users and normalise the idea of clean vehicles on our roads, encouraging a shift to cleaner vehicles
- help local authorities to identify ULEVs and bring in local incentives for electric vehicles"

The green number plates will consist of a green flash on the left hand side of the number plate - available to new and exisiting vehicles, but will not be mandatory, and can be opted out of.
