New turbine and generator installed at power plant in Egypt

Decorative image New
A new steam turbine and generator have been installed at the Supercritical Power Plant in Assiut, Egypt, using a system developed by ALE, an international heavy transportation and lifting contractor.

The 8 m-long, 240-tonne turbine was manoeuvered into place using a gantry and 200 tonne capacity strand jacks which lifted the turbine 16m from the ground and rotated it by 90° within the turbine hall. The process was repeated for the 10 m-long, 296-tonne generator.

The operation was completed as part of a series of upgrades at the 650 MW power plant that will help to meet growing electricity demand and contribute to Egypt’s drive for urban development and economic growth.
