Turning waste plastic into renewable oils, Petroleum Review, September 2018, p 5

In UK, ReNew ELP together with Neste in Finland have patented a Catalytic Hydrothermal Reactor (Cat-HTR) to recycle waste plastic into stable synthetic oil, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The technology has been extensively developed in Australia by Licella. In Europe, approximately 27 mn tonnes of waste plastic is generated annually, only a third of which is recycled.
The first commercial scale Cat-HTR plant is being built at Wilton in Teesside to recycle 20 000 t/a, with planning consent for three further units to bring this total to 80 000 t/a.
