Combined heat and power for Milton Keynes food production facility
Global resource management company Veolia is delivering energy to production lines at Cranswick Foods’ production facilities at the Milton Keynes using combined heat and power (CHP) technology. Cranswick will now be able to guarantee the energy needs of the site and reduce carbon emissions by 1,900 tonnes per annum, says Veolia.
To support the Cranswick Group’s target of reducing its carbon footprint by 30% by 2020 against its 2010 baseline, Veolia designed and installed a 1.2 MWe CHP unit and waste heat boiler to provide low carbon electricity, hot water and steam to the production lines. The CHP unit delivers around 10 GWh of electricity each year, which will take pressure off the local electricity infrastructure. As well as reducing carbon emissions, the business will also benefit from stable energy costs.
