In Australia, the University of Sydney has demonstrated a triple hybrid drone incorporating a hydrogen fuel cell, battery and supercapacitor, the latter improving the dynamic response and smoothing the load for increased battery life. In the absence of hydrogen refuelling facilities in Australia, the team used a metal hydride system, storing 8 g of hydrogen in a 11 kg system. Several tests flights have been completed successfully.
