In Germany, the two-seat SolarStratos aircraft is built by PC-Aero with a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery feeding a 32 kW motor and 237 square feet of solar cells covering its 81.7 ft wingspan to provide power for up to 24 hours of flight. A five-hour flight has been planned in 2018 to ascend to an altitude of 82 000 ft within the stratosphere, the pilot using a pressure suit.
