Energy World February 2018
We return to renewables as the main theme for this issue; concentrating on onshore technologies and the interaction of renewable generators with electricity grids. Thus we start with an article on how smarter, more flexible electricity systems will be needed to cope with ever-increasing amounts of intermittent and decentralised capacity, and return to the subject on page 23. We then travel to Scotland’s islands and the renewables scene in China, before taking a look at the digestate product of some waste-to-energy schemes.
The emphasis then switches to finance for energy. How can new energy start-up companies secure unding, and is there a role here for incumbent utilities? What, given Brexit uncertainty, is appening with investment in UK green energy projects? And how will countries around the world finance their Paris Agreement commitments to cut carbon emissions? Finally, we include a piece that describes a new mortgage product being developed to encourage energy efficiency for homes.
The issue finishes by previewing a new EI publication to be launched this month on the role for gas in future energy systems.
