In US, Washington State University, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the University of New Mexico have devised a low-temperature catalyst that operates before the newly designed engines reach 150°C, and can endure temperatures up to 750°C. The catalyst comprises individual platinum atoms stabilised on the surface of cerium oxide.
