EI responds to Helm cost of Energy Review

Decorative image New
The views of members have been submitted as part of an EI response to the UK Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s call for evidence following the Helm Review into the cost of energy. Recommendations from energy professionals include further research into the various practical issues likely to arise from an implementation of the Review’s recommendations, as well as a widening of scope to include the entire energy system, where the Review is primarily focused on electricity supply. EI members urge government to consider not only the unit cost of supplying energy, but also the impacts resulting from progress made in energy demand and efficiency.

In evaluating the aims laid out in the Review, knowledge from industry experts should be a primary source of information for government, hence the importance of the EI’s continued engagement with members through initiatives such as the Energy Barometer. Energy professionals are among the best resources for identifying effective ways of achieving a simplified, lower-cost energy system; they will also be the ones to implement those changes.
