J Madslien, Gearing up to take diesel off the road, Professional Engineering, October 2017, p 56

In Europe, the EC is aiming to curb diesel emissions by urging manufacturers to concentrate on electric propulsion and alternative fuels. Daimler has launched its Mitsubishi Fuso eCanter 3.5 tonne capacity truck powered by six 420 V, 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery packs giving a range of 97 km. Tesla is launching a heavy-duty truck of 320-480 km/charge, (cf. 1600 km per tankful with a conventional diesel-fuelled tank). Hence, alternative fuels are more promising for long-range. These may include biogas, biodiesel, hydrotreated vegetable oil, or glycerine, possibly in hybrid form with battery-electrical propulsion. It is noted that trucks are used 95% of the time, in comparison with cars used only 5% of the time.
