Energy World September 2017
We have a strong feature on offshore renewables in this issue. The discussion on reducing costs for offshore wind energy starts with the viewpoint article from ScottishPower Renewables’ Jonathan Cole and continues with Marc Height’s assessment starting on page 14. We also include two articles on new technology developments with wind – tethered kites and floating turbines – and a look at how one east-coast port, Great Yarmouth, is riding a second energy wave.
The story of Britain’s world-leading European Marine Energy Centre is featured in one article on the marine energy side; with another covering the journey from testing single devices to the deployment of large-scale arrays of marine energy generators.
Our second theme is energy management, which includes the story of one EI Fellow’s career so far as an energy manager.
The series of articles from EI overseas branches continues from Nigeria, while we also include vignettes of winners of the annual Ashden Awards for sustainable energy in developing countries.
