Energy World June 2017

The transport sector – road, rail, sea and air – is rather behind the power sector in transitioning towards a low carbon alternative. Our five-article feature on transport starts with a long look at how changes in the automotive industry – towards alternative fuels, electricity and fuel cells – will affect the wider energy industry.

Further articles develop the theme, covering challenges that lie ahead for electric vehicle charging; the growth of fuel cell vehicles; and some wider urban mobility issues.

We also address early moves being made by the shipping sector to control carbon emissions.

We then switch to energy management, starting with a look back over the last ten years of energy markets and the lessons to be learned by today’s energy purchasers. Is there a role for behaviour change science in energy management – yes, says our second article. And the third takes a look at how energy managers are dealing with increasing amounts of data.

This issue also sees the first in a series of articles from overseas branches of the Energy Institute – starting with the Hong Kong branch.
