Energy World May 2017
It’s mainly low carbon energy in this issue, starting with our first feature on nuclear power and moving on to renewables and electricity storage. The three initial articles cover moves to reduce the dominance of nuclear power in France; the decommissioning and clean-up work at Sellafield; and plans to meet the UK nuclear industry’s need for more skilled people to join it.
Energy priorities in South East Asia are different to those in Europe, so the article discussing priorities around investing in renewables there is welcome. And how about cooking by solar power? We run through several solar cooker designs and discuss where they can be used to advantage. Energy storage – particularly the storage of electricity – is an increasingly common adjunct to renewables these days. Two articles here discuss commercial arrangements around storage, and show some real-world examples. A final article on testing power cables;
