A welcome to the real world for vehicle emissions testing, Petroleum Review, July 2015, p 7

In Europe, new procedures are to be enforced whereby emissions from diesel cars will be measured when tested on the road, hence replacing the current obsolete tests in the laboratory.   It is argued that the 2007 imit of 80 mg NOx per km is routinely exceeded,, and should be fully enforced.   The Diesel Technology Forum reports that the emissions of particulate matter and NO2 have been reduced by over 95% in comparison with older vehicles.   On the other hand, CNG vehicles are attractive only if the loss of methane to the atmosphere is controlled closely.
