Petroleum Review September 2015

Energy security is high on the oil and gas industry agenda, particularly so in the Middle East, where facilities have been consistently targeted by the Islamic State (Isis). This month’s issue looks at the implications for Saudi Arabia. Operators in the region have also felt the impact of cyber terrorism and the magazine assesses the areas of critical risk and good practice for securing industrial control systems in particular. Our technology feature explores how satellite technology can support pipeline corridor planning and monitoring, and highlights how innovations in geomechanics are helping drive unconventional developments. We also take a look at intellectual property (IP) issues as well as the advantages offered by digital technologies that could help secure the long-term survival of oil and gas companies. This month’s regional coverage targets Latin America and the Caribbean, with a particular focus on Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana. We also present the findings from analysis of 2014 data on marine crude oil transport compiled by the Energy Institute’s HMC-4A Marine Oil Transportation Database Committee, and profile recent publication developments from the EI’s Aviation Committee, which continues to maintain and develop standards, equipment specifications and recommended practices to support those involved in aviation fuel handling.
