Solar project in China ‘blueprint’ for large-scale PV roll-out in UK

A new 80 MW photovoltaic (PV) project in China has been described as an ‘exemplar’ large-scale installation that the UK could adopt as a blueprint for its own large-scale projects.

The 80 MW PV project in Gansu Province, China, uses 356 sets of GW225K-HT inverters from manufacturer GoodWe, delivering an annual average power generation of 187 GWh. The project will aim to reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 143,000 tonnes.

 

GoodWe’s 225 kW string inverter features an IP66 water and dust protection with IP68 external cooling fans, and can be operated under a wide temperature range of –40°C to 60°C.

 

Dunhuang city boasts long hours of strong sunshine throughout the year making it an ideal site for a large-scale solar PV installation. China will aim to be carbon neutral by 2060, and according to energy consultancy Wood Mackenzie, is set to add another 619 GW of solar energy by 2030.
